For some time now, nutritionists and health experts have been debating over whether you should ditch dairy or not. There are some concerns linked with dairy that can’t be ignored. Let’s take a look at certain arguments and find an answer to the question.
Dairy Products Contain Hormones Associated with Cancer Development
While it may be surprising for some people, dairy products can cause or stimulate cancer development in the body, in particular breast and prostate cancer. A hormone injected in cows for faster growth and to increase the production of milk, Bovine Growth Hormone (BGH), is hazardous for humans. Therefore, when we consume dairy items, we are also consuming BGH. A study conducted in China stated that Bovine stimulates a specific chemical, IGF- 1, which has the potential to cause fatal diseases like gynecomastia, hypertension, and diabetes. It has also shown alteration in hormones related to sexual potency. IGF-1 also causes skin-related diseases such as redness, eczema, and acne.
Casein is Linked to Chronic Disease
Dr. T. Colin Campbell, an expert nutritionist, found a strong link between the development of chronic diseases and consumption of dairy products. He illustrated that a milk protein, casein, promoted the development of many chronic diseases like cancer. Furthermore, he added that reduction in the levels of casein through minimizing dairy intake can significantly reduce this risk. Casein is absorbed in the bloodstream and often it affects the immune system. Thus, the development of any chronic disease can prove fatal as the immune system fails to combat it.
Lactose is Not Properly Digested
Lactose (milk sugar) can only be digested in the presence of lactase. But our body stops producing the enzyme 2 years after birth, which also marks the end of breastfeeding. This is a clear indication that we should ditch dairy. There are few people who are medically considered lactose intolerant. However, the truth is that all adults are lactose intolerant. Experts suggest dairy is only for babies. Adults don’t produce lactase, hence the lactose present in milk can’t be digested properly. It is accumulated in the colon. This leads to bloating, cramping, diarrhea and nausea.
Dairy Can Make You Fat
Dairy items are dense in nutrients as they encourage growth, but the same nutrients can increase the size of your waist. Dairy items have a high concentration of fats that are not burned or utilized by the body and so they are accumulated and make you fat. If you are thinking of losing weight or shedding some pounds, ditch dairy.
So now that you have this information, you can make an informed decision about ditching dairy. After all, you know your body and your health level better than anyone.
