So why is it that it feels like you’re the only one who isn’t dropping the weight from your keto dieting? Are you doing something wrong? Is there something about your body that just doesn’t work like someone else’s?

How Does Keto Dieting Work?

The idea behind keto dieting is that you are meant to eat about 80 percent of your daily calories from dietary fat. Of the remaining 20 percent of your calories, 15 percent should be from protein and only 5 percent should be from carbohydrates. By severely cutting carbohydrates in this way, the body shifts into a state known as ketosis. Here, the body burns fat for use as energy instead of relying on carbohydrates.

For some people, keto dieting in this way can bring about rapid weight loss. That said, it’s important to note that there has yet to be proof of long-term weight loss through this method.

Why Isn’t Your Ketosis Working Like That?

If this is the case, why is it that your own keto dieting isn’t working that effectively? Why is it that you’re eating very few carbs and lots of fats but aren’t watching the pounds fall away as seems to be the case with seemingly everyone else?

There are many possible reasons. Consider the following common issues that can stand in the way of keto dieting success:

  • Your calorie consumption is too high – Remember that weight loss isn’t just about a macronutrient balance. Even if your ratios are all on point, if you’re eating too many calories, you won’t drop the weight. Make sure your average calorie intake is where it should be.
  • You’re snacking a lot – There’s nothing wrong with properly planned snacks. However, if you’re grazing all day long on a regular basis, you could be unbalancing your keto dieting without even realizing it.
  • You’re underestimating your carbs – You need to eat 20 grams of carbs or fewer every day to keep your body in a state of ketosis. If you’re not measuring your carbs properly, you could be eating more of them than you think, taking your body out of ketosis.
