World Vegetarian Day is October 1, and it is the perfect opportunity for meat eaters to indulge in some of the very best plant-based meals available. These days, it is easier than ever to follow a healthy plant-based diet that will give you the energy and nutrition that you need to be healthy and happy. So if you want to try out some World Vegetarian Day meals that even meat eaters will love, check out the ideas below to get started.
Buffalo Tempeh Wings
When prepared right, tempeh makes a fantastic, protein-packed substitute for chicken in your favorite buffalo wing recipe. After giving this a try as one of your World Vegetarian Day meals, you are sure to want to make it again and again.
Start with a block of tempeh and cut it in half like a filet. Then start cutting it into smaller wing-sized pieces like rectangles or triangles.
Mix up some breading by starting with a cup of breadcrumbs and seasoning it with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and some oregano.
Mix a little water with some whole wheat flour and then dip your tempeh in the batter first, and then into the breading. Deep fry until golden brown and then toss with your favorite wing sauce. It’s that simple!
Plant-Based Burger
A plant-based burger is yet another one of many World Vegetarian Day meals that every meat eater should try. Again, when prepared right, you won’t miss the meat at all.
Start with half an onion, a large potato, and a jalapeno pepper or two. Dice everything and then heat it all over a medium flame with some oil. Add some sage and thyme and mix until everything is combined.
In another bowl, mash a can of black beans and stir in a few chopped chipotle peppers from a can. Mix the beans and chipotle peppers and then stir in the cooked potato mixture. Add in a cup of breadcrumb and 1 or 2 tablespoons of brown sugar to offset the heat from the chipotles.
Form the mixture into patties and then dust each patty with flour. Pan fry what you need, as the rest will hold well in the freezer for a week so you will have plenty of leftovers.
As you prepare to celebrate World Vegetarian Day this year, gather up a few recipes and give them a try. You may find that you will want to make these recipes more often throughout the rest of the year as well.
